Reach Without Stretching
The long handle covers a wide sweep from where you stand, so a full lawn goes faster and your back does less of the work.
Lift The Dead Layer
Thatch is the mat of dead grass sitting between the green and the soil, and pulling it out is what lets a tired lawn breathe again.
Feed Gets Through
Once the thatch is gone, water and fertiliser reach the root zone instead of sitting on top, which is why dethatched lawns respond so quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is thatch?
The layer of dead grass and debris that builds up between the living blades and the soil. A thick layer blocks water, air and feed from reaching the roots.
When should I dethatch?
During the active growing season when the lawn can recover quickly, and ideally when the soil is slightly moist so the tines pull rather than tear.
How hard should I pull?
Firmly enough to lift the dead material, not hard enough to rip out living grass. You can see the difference in what comes away on the tines.
What is it made of?
A tined steel head on a long handle, with the geometry set so the tines bite at the right angle as you pull.
How should I store it?
Clean the tines, dry them and hang it head up. Steel left damp against a shed floor is what starts the rust.
